Juan Francisco's Monster 502 ft. Home Run 9/12/2011

Reds’ Francisco clears Cincy bleachers with 502-foot* home run

Highlights like this is the only reason to write about the Reds these days. Can't really see the ball, because it was cloudy day. Even though Franciso hit that ball over the moon deck and into the moon, it was still only the second longest ball ever hit at Great American Ballpark. That honer still belongs to Adam Dunn who hit it over the stadium and into the Ohio river.

Why Dusty Baker Keeps Picking Wrong Reds Lineups

So here are a few reason as to how Dusty Baker pick his lineup.

“Some guys don’t hit fastballs as well as they do breaking balls. Some guys are high-ball hitters. You’re not going to throw a high-ball hitter against a sinkerball-slider pitcher. Or a low-ball hitter, you’re going to play him more against a slider guy, a guy who keeps the ball down.”

“Some guys, you try to play them in smaller ballparks instead of bigger ballparks where you need more speed. You go to Atlanta or even here (Cincinnati), our ballpark plays small but it has big gaps in it. You go to Chicago, it has smaller gaps but you’ve got to deal with the wind and the sun on certain days. There are other ballparks where you really need outfield defense. You go to New York, San Diego, L.A., San Francisco, you’d better play your rabbits out there or else you’re going to give up a whole bunch of runs that you shouldn’t.”

"when Bronson (Arroyo) is pitching, I need my best outfield defense because he throws some fly balls. When (Mike) Leake is pitching, I try to match up best defensive infield because there are going to be more ground balls."

Honestly after reading all his reasons, I'm starting to think Dusty is making his job harder than it needs to be. It's baseball, one of the easiest sport in the world. You bat guys that are good at hitting the balls and you stick guy in the outfield that can play some defense. I know I'm not an expert, but what the hell Dusty? This is ain't calculus. You are jut making this whole thing more complicated than it needs to be.
These are professional athletes we are talking about. I don't care if a player like to hit low vs high balls. If he is a good player he will adjust and if he can't hit, send him to the minor to learn how to hit.
More than anything, I think Dusty is keeping his own team off balance with all this shenanigans.  Simply put it like this, like any other sport, you play your best players day in day out.

The Leadoff Dilemma

Finally the Reds get a series win since they swept the Dodgers. Will this series win against the Rays start a run for the Reds, who takes on the Cleveland Indians starting tonight.
But the bigger question might be who will Dusty Baker pick as the leadoff hitter?
Twitter is on fire every time Drew Stubbs steps up to the plate. But Dusty knows he can't take Stubbs out of the game because he is one of the best CF in the game. So that leaves Fred Lewis, Chris Heisey or Jonny Gomes as the lead off hitter. All three have produced very well given the chance.
To be fair, I think Dusty needs to go against his conventional wisdom. And he needs to put Heisey in CF and put Lewis in LF. I don't want to say send Stubbs to AAA until he figures out how to make contact with the ball. But sometimes it just needs to be done. He is a career .257 batter, and that is not leadoff quality.

Joey Votto and Cincinnati Reds agree on 3 year $38 million contract

Reds and Votto agrees to three year, $38 million contract. It's pretty straight forward, Votto gets his money and the Reds avoid arbitration. Can't really fault either sides for this deal, both sides did what was best for them. Plus I'm not a big fan of signing someone to a long term deal anyway. You just never know whats going to happen from season to season.
If he can keep up his MVP type performance for another three season, then sign him again and if he is asking too much then let him go. But I will say this, he would have been a Red for another three years regardless unless traded. If Joey starts sucking, now he won't even be a trade bait given his salary.
Votto also said, “But I can’t imagine playing anywhere else,” he said. “I enjoy myself. I can’t imagine being with a better team. The Yankees or Red Sox — that’s a lot to deal with. I don’t want to go anywhere else.” I don't buy all that BS from Votto, after his three years is up, he will go where the money is. That's what everyone does and that's what he will do too. But lets hope in the next three year, he's will take the Reds to the promise land.

Cincinnati Reds Clinches 2010 N.L. Central Division

It was the first game I attended this year and what a game it turned out to be.
After I came home I wanted write a long ass post about the game.
But sometimes it's better not to say anything at all and just enjoy the moment.

More videos after the jump.

Reds play home run derby during last night's winning season-clinching game

With the first inning scoreless, Arizona started the second not so quietly when Miguel Montero and Ryan Church hit back to back home runs. That though, was all it took to wake up Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo who pitched 107 pitches in 6 innings. Those were the only 2 runs allowed with only 7 hits total no walks and a season-high 8 strikeouts. Bottom of the 2nd, Jay Bruce and Drew Stubbs "in your faced" the D-backs with back to back home runs of their own. Score now 2-2. More excitement happened in the bottom of the 3rd when Joey Votto score his 34th homer of the year, and Bruce homered again this time with 3rd baseman, Scott Rolen on 1st. Score now 5-2. In the 5th, Orlando Cabrera hit his first homer since May 5 and Bruce broke his bat to score Cabrera in the 7th. Final score 7-2. The Reds are now 82-62 7 games above the St. Louis Cardinals who, by the way, lost to the Chicago Cubs last night, creating their first winning season since 2000.

It was the most exciting game I had been to, ever.

I have no idea why they even put Jordan Smith in to pitch, he walked 2 batters and was tossed from the game as he was being relieved and booed off the field. Pics from my view to come!

The next question will be when and where will the Reds clinch the division? Good God I pray its in GABP.

Colin Cowherd Putting The Reds Down

ESPN radio "hack" Colin Cowherd was calling the Cincinnati Reds “frauds.”

WHAT

This is gotta be a joke right, he is calling the Reds a fraud? I mean I guess he is right, the Reds have only been in either first place or second all season long. And so what if the Reds are still leading the division after playing 118 games.
Is it me or does most people with some common sense hate guys like Colin Cowturd and Jim Rome. This fools is just yet another example of "style" over substance, and "volume" over information. So Colin please stick to what you know, which is probably nothing.
As far as Colin Cowherd in concerned, he is just another useless air time.

When I go to Urban Dictionary and type in "Colin Cowherd" this is what comes up.
"Extremely annoying sports radio talk show host who thinks he is right about everything. Tactics include:1)Bashing an entire city or school the day after they lose a championship game.(As if their fans had something to do with it) 2)Rambling on and on about how the ratings in football are so much higher than baseball.(As if that is going to make me instantly stop liking baseball) 3)Cutting off and/or hanging up on anyone who has a different opinion than him. 4)Being so generally annoying that you would rather turn off the radio in fear that you might cut your ears off if you continue to listen. 5)Claiming that he is the only talk show host who makes any sense when he is in fact the only one at his own network who doesn't make any sense. 6)Being such an overall fuckup that you wonder how a stellar network such as ESPN could hire an assclown like him."
